The Praying mantis' are also known as mantids. Its body which is 3 to 4 inches long is tannish brown to pea green color. Its hands look like they are in a position to prey.

One adaptation the praying mantis goes through is seasonal changes. The mantis can lay up to 14 to 400 eggs in the fall. The gummy ball glues to tree twigs, plants, & other objects. It is a foam like cocoon that hardens. Tiny babies hatch in the spring or summer. The egg case protects its young. The mother mantis will eat the father mantis after the babies are born. Most mantis' are born in a tangle of a mass of bodies. All mantis' are camouflaged and cannot be seen in bushy places.

Mantis' do not bite humans. Baby mantis' are no larger than grain of rice. When the babies are ready they will scramble everywhere. Praying mantis have spikes or thorn like hairs to protect them from their enemies and other animals who might want to take its prey. A behavioral adaptation of the praying mantis is it sits or stands on its hind legs and waits for its prey.
